AM I REALLY PROTECTED FROM HIV?

The things we do, represent who we really are. The things we talk about, projects what we actually think. Sometimes we dont realise how important our presence are in this community.

I have to admit that we take many things in life forgranted. We neglect ourselves and subsequently put our lives and the lives of others at risk.

Why dont we stop and and pause for a moment.... Pause for a crtical second.... and answer this simple question,

"AM I REALLY PROTECTED FROM HIV?"

My dear friends,

HIV does not recognize young or old, rich or poor, race and religion....

HIV does not discriminate.... SO WHY SHOULD YOU???

KNOWLEDGE IS THE MOST POWERFUL WAY TO OVERCOME THIS....

ATTITUDE IS THE BEST WAY TO CONTEMPLATE THIS....

PRACTISE IS THE BEST WAY TO PREVENT THIS....

Here are a few facts you should know regarding HIV/AIDS....

  1. There are about 34 million people living with HIV worldwide

  2. AIDS has killed about 19 million people worldwide

  3. 13 million children have been orphaned by AIDS

  4. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS(disease)

  5. HIV stands for HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS

  6. AIDS stands for ACQUIRED IMMUNODEFICIENCY SYNDROME

  7. HIV CANNOT be transmitted by AIR

  8. HIV is transmitted (3 major WAYS)

  • Having unprotected sex - anal sex have a greater risk to transmit the virus followed by sexual intercourse and oral sex.... by using a CONDOM and BEING FAITFUL to your partner, you can protect yourself and your loved ones from HIV.

  • Sharing needles- If you are an intravenous drug user, please DONT SHARE ure needles with other drug user..... so please make sure that if your are planning to do a tatoo or body piercing, make sure you go to a place that uses only STERILE equiptment.

  • Mother to child : pregnant mothers who are infected with HIV can transmit the virus to their unborn child and further transmit the virus to the baby by breast milk.

  • HIV can also be transmitted by contaminatted blood products (blood transfusion) and contaminate needles from syringe used in the hospitals...this is vary rare as blood products from donors are screen first before being used and syringes are now disposable

  • DO bare in mind that HIV can also be transmitted through as open wound or a cut in any part of the body...

9. Women have a greater(4 X greater) chance in contracting the virus compared to men in vaginal intercourse. REASON SIMPLE, the vaginal mucosal surface layer is greater compared to men... so the bigger the surface, the higher the chance....

10. Having a sexual transmitted disease increases your risk of contracting HIV... HOW~? when you have sores or break in the skin, it would be much more easier for the virus to enter....

11.HIV and AIDS brings forth the largest stigma of any known disease in the world

12. HIV can only live in HUMAN BODY no where else.... not in plants, not in animals. so dont worry bout mosquito or fleas spreading the virus

13.OUTSIDE the human body... HIV can only survive for a few seconds

14. Religious or moral believes lead to some belief that having HIV or AIDS is a result of moral fault that deserve to be punished.... (honestly, i have come in contact with many who think this way)

15.SARS and AVIAN FLU are more deadly in ways of transmission but yet people are so afraid of those who have HIV

16. worldwide highest transmission mode : unprotected sex but in malaysia its different, the highest transmmission mode is through sharing of needles among drug users.

17.WORLD AIDS DAY falls on the 1st of DECEMBER

18. Highest age group of those infected with HIV in Malaysia alone : 20-39 years old

19.IGNORANCE of what is actually HIV and AIDS can cause a person to live in fear of the virus and the disease it brings.... empowering yourself and others can help in creating a world free from HIV.

20.There is NO cure for HIV infection.

AIDS. ONE WORD. MANY WORLDS.

The HIV/AIDS Awareness committee would like to introduce to you our t-shirt campaign....

Many thanks to our Graphic designers. They literally worked day and night to establish what I would say a touch of perfection...

This T-shirt will symbolize the HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign 2008.... for me, the words encrypted on the t-shirt brings forth a common meaning to all of us out there who are fighting to help keep the promise of a world free from AIDS.

It is with this t-shirt, we hope that the message is able reach out more to the youth and the public regarding HIV/AIDS.

AIDS.ONE WORD.MANY WORLDS.

5 very powerful words.

We realise that by the end of the day, HIV/AIDS.... it is just not a one man problem but it effects each and everyone of us.... if effects the whole world.

We are hoping to sell the T-SHIRT to the public. So, if there is anyone out there who is interested in buying... please do not hesitate to email us at hivaids2008@gmail.com

The money from the T-shirt sales will go directly in helping out with the HIV/AIDS awareness campaign 2008.

Believe that you can make a difference.

Thank you for your support and dedication towards this campaign.

C.H.A.R.I.T.Y.F.U.N.D

today, we spent almost entire afternoon going to 9 schools in kb to put our RED boxes for our charity fund. the 3 of us were soooo exhausted but luckily all things went smoothly as planned =)

okay..right now i'm hoping that we reach our target for the charity fund. currently, we managed to raise more than RM300 within a week.not bad huh??~~

i've spent hours counting the coins we collected from smk kota bharu. it was our luck actually when the pk HEM gave us the coins they had collected 2 years ago for MAKNA but people from MAKNA didn't collect them.so he gave the money to us instead. i could tell you the feeling of carrying that plastic bag filled with coins. feels like you are carrying a 3 kilos rice pack. that heavy you know.i don't bluff you.what's the point lorr.. =P

to the fund raising and red ribbon gala team, your food is great =)
i'm going to update the bulletin board tomorrow.sorry..i don't have time to do that on a daily basis.
i have good news for myself too::the HEP has approved my letter after being rejected for several times. yeay!! that really boost my 'kerajinan' to write more and more letters.huhu~~
and one more thing, do'nt forget to donate your coins to us
thank you for your kindness and generosity =)

Its the first day of HIV/AIDS awareness month~!

Happy belated chinese new year to all malaysians.... one week holiday has past and here we are back in Good old Kelantan...

so guess what we did today... its the 11th of FEBRUARY~!!! its the beginning of the HIV/AIDS awareness month... to mark the first day of the month we start off by wearing RED~!!!

and not forgetting the 2nd collection for the "charity sale".... phew... seriously we are exausted... but it was all worth it because the amount of items that were donated... all i can say is AMAZING...

Now all we got to do is price them and code each one...

Just a reminder to those who are still oblivious about the charity sale....

it starts this thrusday(14th of feb) from 9am until 6pm.

Location = the ATM area opposite the pharmacy around hUSM ( believe me u can never miss the spot its like super RED)

if you are a health campus student than it would really easy for u to find the place...

Dont worry about the price... its super cheap(price range from RM 1 - RM 50)... and if u decide to buy... you will not just be gaining an item but as a matter of fact... you would also be helping the HIV/AIDS awareness campaign 2008.

okay lets get down to buisiness....

where will the money go...

simple...

A. to help fund the HIV/AIDS awareness project in JUNE 2008

B. To help fund NGO's who are involved in the fight againts HIV.

C. to help out single mothers from Kelantan who are infected with HIV(believe me there are many out there who do not have the proper resources regarding HIV/AIDS and they dont even have a job to begin with... no money means no excess to treatment, no excess to proper sanitation, and no excess to proper food.... the scenario gets worse if the mother is unable to buy powdered milk and resort to feeding her baby breast milk... and there we have it transmission of HIV from mother to child....)

We believe that rm 1 can help many out there who deserve a chance to live like normal people even though they are infected with HIV....

Do remember that HIV is not a death sentence.... we can still make a difference if you start caring....

To those who are willing to give personal donation... please email to this address

we will meet again soon....

to those who helped in the charity sale collection... thank you

to those who have donated their time, energy and money.... thank you.

to those who are willing to help at any cost....thank you.

Our first charity sale collection~!!!

okay today is like our first ever charity sale collection.... what happened~?!!

we went from room to room collecting any unwanted useable items to sell off durin the charity sale....

My lips and tongue are suffering from exhaustion right now. Well who's lips wont suffer from exhaustion if they kept repeating the same dialogue over and over again...

it was more of like this... "hye hello... we are from the HIV/AIDS awareness campaign...do u have any unwanted items that u would like to donate for our charity sale that will be held after Chinese new year~!!!"(i know i have to admit the line was a bit "SKEMA") and i never stopped smiling.... :-)

haha it was quite hilarious watching my friend and I dragging this outrageously humongous blue plastic back from one room to another....

well we managed to gain many items in hand... we got a rice cooker thanx to the Desa Murni collectors~!!! bed sheets and even a perfume...

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the collectors for going out of their way to collect items from each room.... and I would also like to thank those who donated to us.

Seriously thank u....

anwayz the second collection will be held on the 11th of FEBRUARY~! So, for those who didnt get an opportunity to donate yet, u can still get a chance to donate any unwanted items this 11th of February.....

"AIDS. ONE WORD. MANY WORLDS. BELIEVE THAT U CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE "

HIV/AIDS AWARENESS MONTH~!!!

Brace yourself for the red ribbon month.... haha i would put in sound effects there but the "pom kepong pom" band is not available right now... so we just have to make with what we have....

yeay... its our first ever HIV/AIDS awareness month held in the one and only USM health campus, kubang kerian KELANTAN~!!!

to those who might not know whats actually going on....

The HIV/AIDS awareness exco members will be having a "HIV/AIDS awareness month 2008"

WHERE??? like i said USM, helath campus, KELANTAN~!

WHY R U DOING THIS??? simple... to raise money for our campaign in JUNE 2008.... yeah we dont have enough "dough" but no worries, with God's will we are going to make this happen ~!!!!!
at the same time we are able to spread the message to the million of those who are still in the phase of " I dont care, I dont have HIV, why should I help~!" on the importance of knowing the harsh reality of those involved in the fight againts HIV and those who are living with HIV.

someone has to do this.... and it starts from u~!

WHAT ARE THE EVENTS??? most of the events that are held in the HIV/AIDS awareness month are targeted in raising money for our project...

such events are like

"CHARITY SALE" we sell off second hand items with a much lower price.... items range from story books, to really cool fancy item such as my levi's jeans... haha... im selling it for half the price man.... but you have to be a size 27 to fit in them...

"ONE CENT N FIVE CENT DONATION" donate your coins...one cent can really make a difference.... if ure worried that the government is going to abolish the use of one cent then why not just donate the one cent to us.... dont worry we will know what to do with them....

"MOVIE MARATHON"... there will be screening of movies regarding HIV/AIDS.... one ticket will only cost u RM2... "I know its like super cheap right~!!! " even the ever famous nasi uncle in murni cafe cost more than that~!!!" dont worry uncle your still our favourite stall... love your rice~!!!!

so... please come and support the HIV/AIDS awareness month

DATE : from 11th of FEBRUARY till the 17th of MARCH

"a hand to lead, a heart to care"..... you can make a difference....

We SHOULD ACT NOW~!

Nowadays, around 40 million people are living with HIV throughout the world and the number of people increases in every region, everyday. Malaysia itself is not excluded from the exponential rise of HIV/AIDS especially among young adults. In fact, it is estimated roughly 76,000(between year 1986-2006) Malaysians were reported as infected with HIV, of whom some 9200 had developed AIDS (Resource centre. Malaysian AIDS council). In Malaysia, the highest transmission rate of HIV is via sharing of needle for those intravenous drug users.

The stigma and discrimination that accompanies HIV/AIDS often discourage people from testing for HIV or disclosing their status to their partner. This action will not only fuel the spread of HIV/AIDS but increases the risk of our nation being enveloped by the disease itself. Ignorance of HIV/AIDS put lives at risk.

so i ask... Do you care? do we care?

HIV does not care what colour of skin you have, it does not care about your social status, it does not care what ethnic or racial background you come from...

mothers, fathers, children, men and women... ANYONE can be infected by HIV.... ANYONE

so i ask again... do you care?

some of us might know someone who are infected by HIV...
some of us might be infected by HIV...
some of us might not have a clue on what is HIV...

we have to stop judging and start caring... YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE~!

SUPPORT THE CAMPAIGN FIGHT FOR A WORLD FREE FROM AIDS.... SPREAD THE MESSAGE NOT THE VIRUS~!
